Los Salvadores – Stuck Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea CD (Self Release)
Yet another CD EP from Los Salvadores, the “unhinged folk” combo with a revolving door approach to their line up. Latest update is a new female vocalist, who comes across like the late and great Kirsty MacColl, definitely a good thing in my house, in her dual vocal duals with the bloke who, I assume was the main singer last time out. True to their folk roots the festival fraggles jig and fiddle along with tales of local myths, legends and smugglers in a very olde English, real ale with twigs in fashion. The addition of a French Horn (ooh missus) and a violin, at the expense of the mandolin, has given their sound an abrupt change of identity and a more traditional folky sound rather than the acoustic punkery of earlier releases. Not being any sort of authority on folk music I was tempted to check out their website for inspiration in writing this review but refrained for fear I would see sandals and beards and it would prejudice my opinion. I’ll leave it at nice folk but no punk and no punk makes Marv an unhappy fellow indeed. Marv Gadgie
