One of my personal highlights of 2010 was the first series of Jago & Litefoot’s adventures, the Victorian amateur sleuths thrown together following their encounter with the Doctor in ‘The Talons Of Weng Chiang’, and now that they’re back for second series, all is right with the world. This time around, over the course of four separate yet inextricably linked tales, our aging steam-punk hero’s battle the undead, a theatrical horror that drains the life from all who pass through it’s doors, an aristocrat who’s love of the hunt has been passed down through the family genes, whilst desperately trying to combat their new nemesis, a Vampire Lord, and at the same time save poor Ellie Higson, the duo’s favourite barmaid, and their confidante and friend, who has fallen prey to the fore mentioned Vampire Lord’s curse. It’s rip roaring stuff, proper old school boys own adventure from beginning to end, thanks in no small part to Christopher Benjamin and Trevor Baxter, who are an absolute joy to listen to as Jago and Litefoot, London’s unlikely saviours who time and again investigate and solve the crimes and strange occurrences which leave the police baffled and flummoxed. Then, there’s the cliff-hanger. That knock on the door and the appearance of an old friend, which just about guarantee’s that series three will be corker. Until then though, we’ve got series two to keep us company, and its jolly fine company to be in. The new year just got off to a blinding start… Tim Mass Movement
