Although tagged as Progressive rock, ‘Perihelion’ owes as much, if not more to 70s/80s AOR such as Kansas/Foreigner, and singer songwriters such as Elton John or Billy Joel, as it does to acts such as Yes or Asia. It’s all a bit bland, if well presented and played. Occasionally a little snippet of something interesting and catchy such as ‘A Runaway Train’ pokes its head out of the morass of middle of the road rock which dominates this release. Fans of ‘American Rock’, later period Marillion or Magnum might find this enjoyable but I’m guessing the majority of people reading MM probably wouldn’t. Ian Pickens
