Social Distortion – Hard Times And Nursery Rhymes CD (Epitaph)
Benjamin Franklin once said that there the only certainties in the world are death and taxes, but I’ve always believed that there’s a third certainty, and that third certainty boys and girls goes by the name Social Distortion. Its name you can depend on to produce solid blues based rock-n-roll, and once again, they’ve stacked the deck in their favour and delivered a Royal Flush of a record with ‘Hard Times…’. It’s been a long time since Social Distortion were “just another punk rock band”, these days you’re more likely to find them embracing Americana rather than anarchy and as band they’re more comfortable in denim and work boots than leather and studs, and much more at home in bars than they’d be in sweat filled clubs. It was, and is, a natural evolution that’s taken the best part of twenty five years and a lot of heartache, but they’ve finally delivered a pure, confident rock-n-roll record that hits as hard as George Thorogood and Bob Seger on their best days and delivers the same kind of effortless hooks and melodies that Tom Petty patented a long time ago. Are you listening Keith and Mick? ‘Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes’ is how rock-n-roll should sound. Welcome back guys, we’ve missed you… Tim Mass Movement
