Doctor Who: The Companion Chronicles: The Invasion Of E-Space – Starring Lalla Ward, Suanne Braun & Written by Andrew Smith – CD / Download (Big Finish Productions www.bigfinish.com)
Ah, E-Space, the Universe in which the Doctor and Romana found themselves trapped when they passed through a CVE (Charged Vacuum Emboitment) whilst trying to return to Gallifrey, the Universe in which Adric joined the Tardis crew and the Universe in which Romana chose to remain following the events that took place during ‘Warriors Gate’. Set somewhere between ‘The State Of Decay’ and the fore mentioned ‘Warriors Gate’, ‘The Invasion Of E-Space’ finds Romana facing a battle that could end her reason for remaining in E-Space, and looking to the future and the possibility of leaving, she recalls a time when she, The Doctor and Adric discovered a way out of E-Space, through another CVE. This CVE though, was already in use, having been generated by an invading force, an inter-spacial raiding force from N-Space, ready to plunder the mineral wealth of this new Universe, destroying anyone and everything in their path, and the only thing standing in their way and preventing carnage and murder on a massive scale, just happened to be the crew of the Tardis. Business as usual then. ‘The Invasion Of E-Space’ is a cracking little tale of planetary warfare and invasion, which unusually is told from two different perspectives, Romana’s and Marni Tellis (a police officer on the first world targeted for invasion), which works surprisingly well, adding depth and dimension to the drama. There’s plenty of story and plenty to enjoy, and hopefully it’ll set minds working furiously in order to generate further adventures in E-Space for members of the Tardis crew, and maybe even the Doctor himself. First course finished, more please…. Tim Mass Movement
