The Sarah Jane Adventures: Wraith World
The Sarah Jane Adventures: Wraith World – Read by Elisabeth Sladen & Written by Cavan Scott & Mark Wright – CD (AudioGo)
Having already gotten off to a pretty good start with ‘Deadly Download’ and given that the authors are Cavan Scott and Mark Wright (the chaps responsible for the Doctor Who Project trilogy released by Big Finish), I was expecting ‘Wraith World’ to be, well, brilliant. However, expectation can sometimes be a killer, as things rarely work out the way you want them to, or hope they will, and ‘Wraith World’ falls right into that unforgiving trap. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not bad, it’s just not brilliant, and being released at the same time as Jason Arnopp’s superior ‘Deadly Download’ only serves to exaggerate ‘Wraith World’s’ average story, which is the main crux of the problem. Cursed ledger passed from one writer to another, thus ensuring the curse is passed on? It’s slightly cheesy and would have been better off as a time travelling script sent back to the sixties for both Roger Corman and Hammer Studios. Elisabeth Sladen is, as ever, in fine form as Sarah Jane, but I expected (my curse) more from Scott and Wright given their previous form. Still, everyone can have an off day right? Just don’t make a habit of it, eh chaps? Not a bad way to spend an hour or two, but I’d check out ‘Deadly Download’ first if I were you… Tim Mass Movement
