Neurosis – Live at Roadburn 2007 CD (Neurot Recordings)
Wonderfully atmospheric and engrossing nine track recording from Neurosis’ 2007 set at the Roadburn festival in Holland. For those of us not lucky enough to have experienced the band live this is the next best thing, although by all accounts the visual show is almost as important as the music, so maybe a CD/DVD of this set would have been a nice touch. Visuals aside it’s an experience in itself to stick this CD on, crank up the volume and lose your self in the heavy, apocalyptic vibes of one of the most progressive and experimental bands to arise from the hardcore/metal scenes in the past 20 years. Its fair to say Neurosis were one of the proginators of this style of heavy music, although Hawkwind’s sprawling psychedelic spaciness could be considered an influence, albeit not as heavy and focused as Neurosis. Essential for existing fans and those with a predilection for progressive and Avant Garde metal such as Ancestors, Pelican and Baroness. Ian Pickens
