PN – From What Rivers Have To Offer
The walls have now truly been broken. Belgian band PN have always been about letting emotions prevail above what was deemed normal in punk rock land. With ‘Through Satin Veils Gropes Desire’ from 2006, the path of golden bricks was lain. And still, as good as that record was, something could have been tuned a bit better. That something must have been the feeling you have when experiencing something for the first time… the first kiss, that first ray of sun on your skin after a long winter, the first time you taste ice cream. ‘From What Rivers Have To Offer’ is even closer to the heart. It took two years in writing, and the band wanted to keep the dynamics of that ‘first time’ right by recording things live in the studio as much as possible. With PN you never talk about just music, lyrics, or the comparison to other bands. They have their hearts on their sleeves, pour everything into the music like rivers to the sea. Everything is allowed: melody, cacophonia, desperate screams, angelic voices, strings, and piano. Eight pieces of art wrapped up gracefully in a wooden cigar box. It’s even in the artwork the love is felt. Martijn Welzen
