From the darkest part of the human psyche, come the four songs on The Shallow’s debut and just like the blackened thoughts and emotions that forged them, the music jumps from left to right, unexpectedly, and uncontrollably. Heavy metallic and above all noisy hardcore that sometimes takes a tiny step back, as in ‘Father’, and coming close to sounding like Enter Shikari with rabies. The other sings sound like an outlet for frustration, that’s been tamed and focused in an amazingly musical way. An original and challenging release. Martijn Welzen
