Sacred Steel – The Bloodshed Summoning CD (Cruz Del Sur)
German powerhouse, Sacred Steel have always followed the fur laced tracks of leather-clad power metal and in particular, hero worship their idols, Manowar. In the four years since ‘Carnage Victory’, the band have not only grown older, but they’ve also become rather grumpy. Youth might have energy, but with age comes anger, or so it seems, and Sacred Steel, in their advancing years, have delivered a nice amalgamation of classic power metal and crunching thrash, not unlike Kreator. Having said that, I had to think of another band who’ve managed to blend both genres equally, and. I can’t name one, which is proof positive that this hasn’t been an easy task. The battle axes and shining swords have been traded in for sneakers and knuckledusters and reality has caught up on Sacred Steel, but even though Valhalla has been left behind and traded for the rough streets of industrialised cities everywhere, the mayhem and bloodshed that follows in Sacred Steel’s wake remain… Martijn Welzen
