Overtorture – At The End The Dead Await CD (Apostasy)
Need to have a holiday-exorcism? That warm, cozy feeling you get from trees in blossom, turkey, fluffy stockings and the warm embrace of your family, can, and will, be professionally carved from your memory by Swedish Overtorture, who have lovingly called their debut ‘In The End The Dead Await’. How’s that for a reality-check in January? The New Year starts with a bang. Grinding, gnawing, relentlessly crushing all the joy in your life and truth be told, whatever you do in life, death is the inescapable final chapter. Overtorture have taken the skeleton of Grave and, seemingly at random, added bits and pieces of other legends from the 80s and early 90s. Although all the ingredients are there, for the time being, this band still seem to jumps from one end of their influence list to another a bit too unexpectedly for my taste, but I do love the Dismember, old-Entombed riffs and melodies that rear their ugly heads from time to time… Martijn Welzen
