Destroyer 666 – Phoenix Rising

Destroyer 666 – Phoenix Rising (Download)
Originally hearing these these Aussie Blackened Thrash Metallers long ago, I found them to be rather good at that polished yet violent, underground thrash sound, but I lost track somewhere along the line. Phoenix Rising is the natural bastard child of the likes of Kreator, Destruction and the early 90’s wave of Norwegian Black Metal. As this is a download, with no information, the Internet tells me that this is actually a re-issue of a 2000 release. This is interesting as it shows that not only is this kind of music timeless and that this album remains as powerful as it apparently was to the initiated in 2000, but also the paradox of creating awesome, blistering Metal, in that its lack of invention and progress merely makes it a stylish tribute to what has gone before. This a very dense record and there is plenty of variety, enjoyable riffing, blasting and fist punching Metallic joy to be had… but unless you’re a real devotee of this genre, you’re likely to go back to your Reign In Blood and your slippers and mutter that things aren’t what they used to be. However, if you’re new to Blackened Thrash or if you’re not and just haven’t heard this one yet, get hold of this reissue and start blasting. Chest Rockwell
