Ripface Invasion – s/t EP CD (IDK Music)
Warning: Listening to this record could lead to bodily harm, because even if you are alone in the comfort of your own home you will be unable to resist springing to your feet and starting a vicious circle pit that will have you knocking over furniture, plants, animals, children, grandparents, your beer… and anyone/anything else that may be in your way. Ripface Invasion is comprised of five veterans of the New York/New Jersey area hardcore and metal scenes, including former members of I.D.K., E-Town Concrete, and One 4 One, and what they’re doing here is simple. Bringing. It. Back. The five songs on this self-titled EP rage like a blasphemous blend of Judge, Cro-Mags, Agnostic Front, and – dig this! – Nuclear Assault. The songs – ‘Doomsday A.D.’, ‘The Last One On Earth’, ‘Ripface Attack’, ‘Horrortech’, and ‘God-Fearing Mutants’ – are thematically linked to the glory days of thrash, and feature the chunky riffage, squeal-heavy soloing, and lyrical obsessions with nuclear fallout, the end of everything, and band-pride bravado to prove it, but they are also full of references to the heavier end of the NYHC spectrum, with all the barking gang vocals, breakdowns, and legitimate mosh parts to bear that out as well. If you – like me – can’t get enough of the sounds that were coming out of the NY/NJ area circa 1987-89, and you wonder what might’ve happened if Leeway or Crumbsuckers had continued to do what they were doing back in the day… look no further that Ripface Invasion and prepare for the Ripface attack.
