Beyond All Recognition – Drop = Dead

Beyond All Recognition – Drop = Dead CD (Napalm)
Not sure when it all started, but all of a sudden a new subgenre of metal, or hardcore if you will, came into being; dubcore. I rather like what American band The Browning did, as they made sure their music was also very danceable. Swedish Beyond All Recognition are on the right track, but the core of their sound is still pure metal, and the dance and trance elements are still too much of an afterthought. The organic and techno bits aren’t fully incorporated yet and the metal(core) isn’t good enough to stand on its own cloven hooves yet either. Several songs do have the right DNA, and if these are a glimpse of the band’s future, then eventually we’ll all be assimilated. Good record, but some songs needed a bit more work. Martijn Welzen
