Gypsyhawk – Revelry & Resilience CD (Metal Blade)
Not a single guitar breakdown on the entire record… Now that’s refreshing! Gypsyhawk a four piece from Pasadena Ca; play non-stop boogie rawk n rawl! All eleven tracks on ‘Revelry & Resilience’ are filled with a party rock vibe and are full of bouncing biker and festival rock. The feel good factor is unbelievable; riding high alongside the loud guitars and guttural rock squawks. As opening track ‘Overloaded’ kicks in and starts the party, I can’t help but raise the volume level – damn this is good time rock’n’roll! There’s a hard rocking edge to Gyspyhawk and the songs contain a no-nonsense vibe encompassing the very best of 70s and 80s rock. There’s a heck of a Thin Lizzy influence going on around here, during ‘1345’ the Lynott feel is massively present (in a good way) and that maybe a little hard for some to believe, considering members of Gypsyhawk have cut their teeth in bands such as Skeletonwitch and White Wizzard. ‘Revelry & Resilience’ is the Pasadena group’s second full length and first for Metal Blade, and you can see why their name is spreading far and wide… Closer ‘Rock And Roll Hoochie Koo’ sums it all up perfectly really – Castle Donington (and High Voltage) Festival calls!!!
