Empatic – Gods of Thousand Souls CD (Twilight)
Well it seems that this Polish Metal release actually came out back at the end of 2010 but is still doing the rounds. I’m not sure if I should slot them into the Death Metal genre, though the vocalist does rock a decidedly workmanlike gravelly growl. Some of the lyrics are pretty clear, and fairly clunky given the non-native English tongue. The general sound seems to borrow largely from the rhythms of Pantera, Lamb of God and Meshuggah with the attack of the likes of Behemoth. Empatic are pretty damn tight and the tunes flow very well, but while it’s admirable in its bluster, Gods of Thousand Souls remains rather generic, pinch harmonics and all. The whole thing can fly past in rather a blur and despite all the activity, few of the riffs are memorable. Maybe next time they can reach higher than their influences. Chest Rockwell
