Altars – Conclusions CD (Facedown)
Well, here’s a surprise… down tuned staccato chug riffing from the Meshuggah mould and a singer that surely gets paid by the amount of blood vessels he bursts in his neck per word. Never ceases to amaze me where these people get their ‘anger’ from. Anyway, now realising what we’re dealing with here, I guess the challenge is to find out why Altars differs from any other Metalcore band. Not easy. Altars do have some great riffs, albeit buried under a never ending torrent of screaming bile. They’re apparently a Christian band and appear to be yelling about it every now and then, but I don’t really see that it matters outside of maybe introducing some sheltered kid to Iron Maiden. There are a few pleasurable musical interludes in between the shouting, but really, it’s more of the same. Well played, well delivered, but been done many times. Chest Rockwell
