Bad Brains – Live at CBGB Coloured Vinyl (Wienerworld)
Not to be confused with the CD of the same name, nevertheless, the tracks are a selection from the Live DVD of the same name (clear as mud eh?) recorded during a three night stint at the legendary New York club over xmas 1982. 14 Tracks from the ROIR/Rock For Light period. On the speedy side of things you get ‘The Regulator’, ‘Banned in DC’, ‘Riot Squad’, ‘FVK’, ‘Right Brigade’ etc. and on the reggae side – ‘The Meek’, ‘Rally Round Jah Throne’ and ‘I and I Survive’. The sound quality (as with the DVD) is less than perfect, to say the least, but there’s no denying the ferocious energy and musicianship of Bad Brains, and this release captures that. Add in the Red, Green and Gold swirl coloured vinyl and – instant collector’s item. No ‘Pay To Cum’ though? Travesty. Ian Pickens
