Tankard – A Girl Called Cerveza CD (Nuclear Blast)
I’m not sure what the German thrash warriors in Tankard are made of, as, usually, 30 years of excessive beer consumption doesn’t bode well for creativity, let alone health in general. With mighty livers of steel Tankard are still at it, giving us their own brew of stainless metal. Gerre’s typically rasping vocals have always been the most recognisable trademark, and while staying true to that, and the band’s typically galloping sound, the drums and guitars and everyting else have always, consistently, improved record to record. Instead of the drunk pub dwellers you might expect them to be, ‘A Girl Called Cerveza’ is the band’s most solid release to date and and an extra dose of good old fashioned, pure rock n roll, closely related to the kind Motörhead play, gives the band a new lease of life. Tankard are back, it’s beer minutes to thrash o’clock and happy Metal hour again! Martijn Welzen
