Whitechapel – Whitechapel CD (Metal Blade)
Whitechapel’s 4th release sees them self titling the offering because of its darkness… There is some really atmospheric stuff delivered here; with such aggression and eerie intros building into immense riffs and shredding but also combining melodies and frosted with an (at times) almost black metal vocal approach. The 10 tracks on offer here are a combination of fast and slow (well slow for Whitechapel anyway) giving the band a new breath of life, and new drummer Ben Harclerode smashes the kit with precision to confirm this. The melody does ease the monotony of the intensity and I don’t feel I am being repeatedly smashed in the face for no reason. The writing of ‘Whitechapel’ was more a band collaboration this time, and you can feel they have created a better vibe with this release. Intense metalcore with groove that makes it audible; just check out ‘Make It Bleed’, ‘The Nightmare Remains’ or ‘Possibilities Of An Impossible Existence’. Mark Freebase
