Limozine – Full Service CD (Beat Atlas)
Cue the sound of laughter. Maniacal laughter. The kind of laughter that clearly represents a sense of smug satisfaction coupled with sheer unadulterated joy. Limozine are back, and this time they’ve given us a full 11-track album so I’m not left sitting here after 1 or 2 songs wondering what the hell just hit me over the back of the head… and just where did it go anyway? For the uninitiated, Limozine are a rock ‘n’ roll band. Or, in my own personal parlance, a straight-up rawk band. I’ve thrown out the key reference points in past reviews of this marvelous band’s singles: Stiv Bators. Johnny Thunders. A very young and very junked-out Keith Richards. The Dictators. The Stooges. The Cramps. Oblivians. The Humpers. The Modern Lovers. MC5. New York Dolls. Oh yeah. Two tracks here – ‘Deep Fried Love’ and ‘Drink Ya Self Out Of It’ – comprised the advance single for this release, which I called ‘a million times better – and a billion times cooler – than any single being pimped by pop radio’ in my review for Mass Movement 30. It’s no less true now than it was then. The kicker is that neither song stands taller than the remaining 9 tracks on ‘Full Service’. Both ‘Beercan Blues’ and ‘Surfin’ In The Dark’ call to mind early Hanoi Rocks and the mighty Dead Boys in equal measure. ‘Twenty Greatest Hits’ has the feel of an early Rolling Stones sing-along single – if it were recorded by The Stooges at their most dangerous. ‘Siamese Twins’ could’ve been the B-side to Sam The Sham & The Pharaohs’ original single release of the ultimate garage rock record, ‘Wooly Bully’. I could go on, but I can’t stop laughing. Deep, almost-tearful laughter. I mean, really? A real rawk band this good is wandering the streets, spreading the gospel of pure rock ‘n’ roll to the masses in 2012? I’m afraid that if I stop laughing I might realize that this is all just a dream. A filthy, beautiful dream. The Impaler @impalerspeaks
