Yashin – We’ve Created A Monster CD (Self Release)
Once again, I’m puzzled by how a band can sound both generic and yet still be amazing at the same time. Scottish six piece Yashin barely break any new ground, but when they do hit the ground, they hit it running. Going from danceable, Linkin’ Park like pop to absolutely brutal metal core. Anything goes, and even though, on this, the band’s sophomore album, the individual parts aren’t original, I don’t think there’s any band out there who have the same wide variety of influences, and luckily they don’t derail the Yashin-train in the quest for originality. Too often the the old man, that I am, shines through and ‘We’ve Created…’ sounds just a little too restless, but the youth will go absolutely nuts over these guys at some festival where the pouring rain has made it a mud-fest to remember. Energetic and positive, the way youth should be, so leave you grumpiness and teenage-angst at home. The stadiums are calling…. Martijn Welzen
