Morbid Saint – Spectrum Of Death LP (Relapse)
1988, what a year… Thrash was living it large and so many great bands were feasting on their pieces of the mainsteam pie. Wisconsin natives Morbid Saint didn’t care about that, as what they made with ‘Spectum Of Death’ was the perfect, yet deadly, blend of the fiercest of American bands, like Dark Angel, and old, very early Slayer, and the European merchants of death; Kreator and Sodom. It rages endlessly, but is also insanely catchy at the same time. You can however hear that it’s about 25 years old. Not that I’m saying it’s outdated, but the production is simple and the band hasn’t been touched by any of the modern thrash influences. I’m just glad Relapse has released this classic on vinyl again, as Morbid Saint are a thoroughly underrated band, who deserve their place in the ghoulish spot light. Martijn Welzen
