Ides of Gemini – Constantinople CD (Neurot)
Opening with the funeral dirge of The Vessel & The Stake, IOG set their stall out immediately; the doleful vocals of Sera Timms taking centre stage in front of a Spartan arrangement of guitar and drums, which at times has the disconcerting atmosphere of Black Metal, at others an enveloping ceremonial drone. There’s a touch of Siouxie and the Banshees particularly on Resurrectionists, but to simply provide comparisons would do both the band and the album a disservice. A unique piece of work, for connoisseurs of intriguing music. Ian Pickens
