Riotgod – Invisible Empire CD (Metalville)
When you’re influenced by rock music from three different decades it’s not that easy to put things together and create that initial breath of new life. A hideous miscreation is what you might, not unreasonably, expect, but Riotgod defy expectation. Riotgod love Led Zeppelin, are heavy like Trouble, and gloomy like Alice in Chains and Soundgarden. The end result is an amalagation of rock n roll history lessons, lessons which are learned best by going far too fast on a motorway reeking of whiskey, sweat and gasoline. Just because you take your influences from legends, it doesn’t mean you can’t be one sleazy madman in your own right. Maybe intelligence and filth do go together afterall? I can think of far worse partnerships… Martijn Welzen
