Off! – Off! CD (Vice)*
Keith Morris is 56 and Punk is NOT dead. Off! proves that in 16 songs, most clocking in at under a minute (like all great punk songs should!) This could be the lost Black Flag or Circle Jerks album you always wanted, as it picks up right where Nervous Breakdown and Group Sex left Off! This isn’t blazing some new trail (as even their website states) this is picking up what they did before and showing the same passion and anger, playing a brand of punk that I miss, and doing it justice. Not a retread, or a reunion show, this is the real deal. All the songs are great, but stand outs for me include Wiped Out (which has a Nervous Breakdown feel to it), Borrow and Bomb, Toxic Box, Jet Black Girls, Harbor Freeway, 503, and I Need One (I Want One). This record will fly by so quickly you’ll have to replay it at least a dozen times, or more! If you miss the anger and chaos that was early LA punk, look no further than Off! Jethrobot
* Yeah, it’s another Off! Review. I told you, we couldn’t decide who was going to review it, so we all did. Well, most of us did. I guess by now you’re starting to get the message… That’s right, the Off! record is incredible…
