Cynic Guru – Catastrophe / Secret CD (The Birdman Records)
2 track single by Icelandic / American pop rockers Cynic Guru; the brain child of Japanese American strings-man and vocalist Roland Hartwel an acclaimed violinist with the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra. Big in Japan (and Iceland!) Cynic Guru appear to be going from strength to strength with a variety of different labels from a array of geographical locations promoting and releasing their material. Title track Catastrophe is an extremely radio friendly, electro rock oddysey complete with hooks a plenty and cascading synth and violin elements. Secret is slightly more of the same expect with a slightly slower pace and funkier, groovier feel. A little too fluffy round the edges for me but could be a sign of bigger and better things to come!
