Sunday Recovery – Coma CD (Mazepa Records)
Debut album from this Italian four piece and it’s not a bad effort although maybe a tad on the lighter of the rock spectrum for most MM readers. In something of a commercial coup the band have secured the presence of Porcupine Tree’s resident four string maestro Colin Edwin on two tracks (‘In Front of You’ and ‘Side C’ which should garner some interest from PT fans, but it would do Sunday Recovery an injustice to suggest thats the only reason for checking them out. There’s a definite Porcupine Tree influence through the 11 tracks of ‘Coma’ in both the song writing and performance with the soft/hard dynamic Steven Wilson’s troupe are famed for, and maybe a less histrionic Muse influence creeping in too. Good stuff for fans of modern prog with a heavy edge. Terrible cover art though. Ian Pickens
