Uncompromising old school black metal devoid of many of the electronic/industrial folk/choral elements that have become common in the genre. ‘Ashlands’ is a return to the more brutal and stripped down sounds of early Bathory. The blast beat drumming is intense to say the least and there are some extremely catchy death metal guitar riffs, ‘The Chase’ being the stand out track for this; but overall the lack of diversity wears a little thin. For diehard black metal fans only I’m afraid. Ian Pickens
