Wild Moccasins – SkinCollisionPast CD (New West)
Drab indie pop tones from a five-piece outta Houston, Texas. If World Party pop songs, Smiths guitar refrains, Sugarcubes eclectisism and 10,000 Maniacs whimsical folk musings appeals, then this is for you. It ain’t for me! The more direct pop songs, notably ‘Psychic China’ are certainly stronger when compared with the overtly experimental droning indie dirges. Besides the nine track album, there’s the additional ‘treat’ of the 2009 EP, ‘Microscopic Metronome’ which actually contains the most energetic slice of tunesmithery here in ‘My Favourites Die’ – otherwise it’s more of the same. Oddly, the digipack sleeve artwork features two Asian kiddies. One has his shirt off and is covered in Measels – not appealing and truly itch inducing. Steve Scanner
