The Goon; Issue 34 (Dark Horse)
If you aren’t familiar with Eric Powell’s series of comics starring the Goon then a basic introduction is that the Goon is a simple henchman out to beat up any monster or beast that makes a move near his local town. Be it zombie, vampire, ghoul, monster, alien or whatever, ‘The Goon’ will beat the shit out of them. It’s hilarious, it’s fantastically surreal and unabashed of its simplicity and it rocks. The art is superb as always and in this issue The Goon tackles some ‘Sparkly’ vampires and a monster in the orphanage. Makes me wish that The Goon animated film makes its way through pre-production hell and in to green light heaven soon. In times of comics striving to be more intellectual at least The Goon isn’t ashamed of being a muscle bound thug and you know it’s going to get a little punchy and very funny. ALEX
