In Solitude – The World, The Flesh, The Devil CD (Metal Blade)
In much the way that fellow Swedes Ghost have perfectly captured the sound and aesthetic of 70s and 80s metal, In Solitude have produced an excellent album which while drawing on some fairly obvious influences (not surprisingly Mercyful Fate & Angelwitch and vocally early Candlemass), sounds fresh and contemporary. The songs are quite lengthy but contain enough catchy riffs and twin harmony leads to keep the listener’s attention, and in vocalist Pelle Åhman, In Solitude have discovered a singer of well above average talent. Stand out tracks – ‘We Were Never Here’ and the epic NWOBHM gallop of ‘On Burning Paths’. Take a bow Sweden – you are certainly delivering the goods Metal wise at the moment. Ian Pickens
