Metal, and by that I mean every single subgenre, is not only about being brutal, but also about being exciting. With ‘Black Death’ totally misses that excitement. It made me think of Benediction or Bolt Thrower, with deep grunts and all other ingredients, but it just doesn’t have the same sticking power the others do. No, let me rephrase that, it doesn’t have any sticking power at all. A song like ‘Godseed’ stands out as it has the variety and the impact a good death metal song needs, but mostly it’s just a big, grey blob of evil… Martijn Welzen
