The surprise of this issue comes out of Normandy, France. ‘The Ever Expanding’ is the missing link between grunge, Linkin Park style new metal, and the type of hardcore played by bands like Snapcase and The Hope Conspiracy. It’s pressing, staccato, up-tempo, but never cold or distant, is always present, but will never smother any of your senses. Noïd can, like no other band I’m acquainted with, build songs that reach an outstanding climax and they can do it on every single track of this, their second full length. It’s a volatile cocktail of unexpected ingredients, and it makes up one hell of a record. Martijn Welzen
