Meat Puppets –Lollipop CD (Megaforce)
For most, the Meat Puppets will always be one of the original SST bands, one of the bands who helped to shape and define underground, independent American music in the eighties, and rightly or wrongly, as such. they’ll always be identified as a punk band. Whilst they embraced the DIY spirit and ethos that SST and punk rock hold, nd have always held dear, musically, they were never really what I’d call punk, and even if they were once, they’re not anymore. See, the Meat Puppets discovered their sound a while back, and with ‘Lollipop’ they continue down the path that they set for themselves, and in doing so have delivered another exquisite musical pleasure. I’m a sucker for their fusion of sixties pop driven countrified Americana, always have been and always will be, and ‘Lollipop’ continues to justify all of the faith that I had, and will always have in the Meat Puppets. Records as good as ‘Lollipop’ are all too rare in this age of mindless, robotic, repetitive, unit shifting consumerism, and should be celebrated and enjoyed. So that’s exactly what I’m going to do, I’m going to enjoy ‘Lollipop’ again. And again and again and again and again…. Tim Mass Movement
